User Research

User Research

Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services that is used nationally by over 277.7 million subscribers. However, with the endless amount of entertainment to choose from, users end up doom-scrolling. The 'My Lists' feature is great for saving shows you want to watch. However, it lacks filters that allow users to sort their saves.

After gathering the findings from my research, I moved on to ideating a solution that could create a more seamless and stress-free shopping experience for users.

User Research

User Research

I interviewed a group of individuals who use Netflix every day and frequently use the 'My List' feature to learn about their pain points and the impacts on their experience with the platform.

Pain Points

Through my research, I found that the main pain points were that users are hesitant to use online marketplaces because they're afraid of getting scammed and don't want to give their personal information to strangers.

"I wish I could organize my lists to find shows for specific occasions faster.

"the lack of personalization makes
it frustrating to find a new show to watch"

How might we improve Netflix users' experience when saving a show they want to watch?

The Solution

The Solution

Implementing a feature within "My Lists" that provides users with a more personalized experience. Users will be able to create collections where they can save shows and movies to watch for any occasion.

Before I began designing, I laid out the task flow to lay out the process a user would take to get to their end goal. This allowed me to fully understand what steps were necessary to design for the feature.

I began the design process, taking note of Netflix's current designs. My goal was to design something that would help organize saved shows to prevent doom scrolling through the wide range of shows offered.

As I moved onto the high-fidelity designs, I began by exploring Netflix's UI elements to better understand how I could create designs that were well incorporated.

Testing the Design

Testing the Design

Using unmoderated usability tests, I asked participants who were familiar with the My List section to navigate through the prototype and complete a set of tasks.

Since this was only a conceptual project and not associated with Netflix, I could only test the impact with a small group of participants. However, I learned that my testing was successful and all participants could complete the given tasks without any issues. In addition, all participants mentioned they would use this feature if it were to be implemented.

Throughout this project, I enjoyed being able to create a design for a service that I use daily. This project allowed me to gain practice designing a product within an existing product.
